Finding Fall in Texas

Seasons show themselves in different ways, depending on how far a location is from the equator. Texas is blessed with being just far enough away that there are some differences between the seasons, but there are no unendurable extremes of hot or cold weather.

Fall differs from summer in that the air gets a little chill to it, but if you don't want to wear a sweater, you don't have to. Sometimes, the wind picks up a little; then the chill can be felt. Also, after usually hot and dry summer months, fall brings rain.
So it has been, this year.
Yesterday morning, the temperature was a balmy 50 degrees, and there was no wind to speak of. I was able to tramp around the meadow wearing a short sleeve t-shirt and some long pants. It was beautiful.
If you look closely, you can see some of the signs of a Texas fall....

Mostly, you will see more brown in the plants, and long heads of seeds on the stalks of the meadow grasses.

I expect that temperatures will stay pleasant for quite some time. Of course, there will be a cold snap or two as the days shorten and the nights get longer. But the cold doesn't last long in Texas. After a day or two of icy weather, the sun comes out again and the coats go back in the closet.

I am looking forward to lots of cool days ahead.
