A special thanks to the folks at Green Gate nursery for graciously allowing me to photograph their gorgeous flowers to my heart's content.

Psalm 150

 1 Praise the LORD.
   Praise God in his sanctuary;

2 Praise him for his acts of power;
   praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
   praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
   praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
   praise him with resounding cymbals.

Wild Pinks

The Magnolia Hotel

The Magnolia Hotel is one of the oldest buildings standing in the downtown area of Seguin, but it looks like it's days are numbered. Originally, the building was a two-room log house in the 1840s, but modified by James Campbell, who added rooms and turned it into a hotel. There is supposed to be a cellar cut out of solid rock under the hotel, which reputedly provided shelter for folks during Indian scares. In the 1930s, the  hotel was modified again, and a section became apartment units. Now, it sits quietly, just a block off the center of town, unnoticed for the most part.

Seguin's Jewel...the Texas Theater

I love the architecture of the Texas Theater, located on Austin Street, just a couple of blocks from the center of town. The color is incredible, the vintage details evoking a feel of times past. Hope these photos convey some of the rich detail of this jewel of a building.

The Fountain at Central Park, Seguin

Central Park sits in the heart of downtown Seguin, and the jewel of the park is the fountain. It's tri-level water feature and reflecting pool provide a touch of beauty on a stark winter day.

Juan Seguin, the "Paul Revere of Texas"

Juan Seguin entered the Alamo in February of 1836, along with Bowie, Crockett and others. He was the last to leave, sent out to get help from Col. Fannin at Goliad. General Sam Houston sent Seguin and his band of vaqueros to warn settlers of the Mexican General Santa Ana. For this reason, Juan Seguin is called the "Paul Revere of Texas".
The small town of Walnut Springs changed their town's name to Seguin, to honor him. He visited the town named in his honor in, parading down the streets in his uniform. This statue which sits in Central Park, depicts Seguin wearing his military uniform, holding his saber.

The Last Leaf Hangs Tough

Last week was a brutally cold time for central Texas. The wind blew, snow fell, and it seems like everything green froze. The last of the pecans fell off the trees, as well as most to the remaining leaves. There is a beauty in the starkness of winter, but I long for the warm, sweet breezes of spring.

The Dietz Doll House...A Child's Dream Play House

This charming doll house was built by Louis Dietz in 1910 for a little girl named Alice O'Brian. Alice was born in 1905 in the New York Foundling Hospital and transported by train to Seguin to be adopted. Her adopted mother died nine months later. Louis and his sister, Mollie, adopted Alice.

Take a Train Ride...New Braunfels Park Attractions

The city of New Braunfels, located on I-35 between San Antonio and Austin, has a wonderful little park complete with a miniature train. The park encompasses part of the Comal river and springs, so there is plenty of wild life to photograph. You can feed the ducks, watch the squirrels beg for crumbs, or just enjoy the clean country air.

A Reminder that Warm Days Will Come Again

Sometimes, I ask my honey to stop the truck and let me take some photos, and he graciously obliges. In this instance, I wanted to take some photos of the sunflowers, so Richard pulled right up to them and I did not even have to get out of the truck. However, the wind was blowing, and I had to wait for the flowers to stop moving. Richard, my honey, a smart and loving man, got out of the truck and held a bunch of flowers still for me. So, I also took a photo of that!  This is a reminder of the kind of things he does just because he loves me.

Rusty Backyard Treasures

Some folks prefer the pristine order of a planned subdivision. Others, however, enjoy the wonder and unexpected pleasures of ancient treasures to be found in the old neighborhood back yards. This truck must have been in use recently, if the tires are any indication, yet it harkens back to a simpler day and age.
