The Many Faces of the Common (or not so common) Grackle

Most Texans are familiar with the common grackle (Quiscalus quiscula ), you know, the noisy black bird that roosts in flocks of hundreds and thousands outside businesses and homes, making loud, raucous calls to each other, and leaving lots of slimy white bird poop on anything unfortunate enough to be underneath them.

The grackle is a relative of the blackbird, cowbird and orioles, but he gets no respect around here. This fella sat on the fence while the sprinkler was spraying water around him, and I took several shots of him in various poses...

1. Captain Grackle, hero of the bird world, defender of helpless bushes and fences.

2. American Eagle Grackle (can you see his steel-eyed stare?)

3. Road Rage Grackle...he's had a bad week and he's really, really, mad.

And last, but not least,
4. "Zombie" Grackle
