The four starling chicks seemed to be doing so well when I took the photos for the last blog report, a couple of days ago. I admit I was a little concerned as I watched how far they leaned out of the nest, clinging to the edge of the hole with their tiny claws. The very next morning, there was no activity at all at the nest. I watched for quite a while, wondering why the momma and poppa were not making non-stop trips to the nest. Finally, I came to the reluctant conclusion that the babies must be gone. They did not seem to be mature enough to fly, so I suspect some predator found them.
