The Official State Bird of Texas...the Mockingbird

As you know, if you follow my blog, there are at least two nests in my yard. The starling nest is located high in a dead pecan tree, and the mockingbird nest is in a bush next to my back porch.

After observing both sets of parents, I can tell you that the mockingbirds will go to greater lengths to protect their young. My cat got dive-bombed several times, this morning. I assume she got too close to the nest, though I have not spotted the nest, yet. It must be close, though, because the set of mockingbirds are definitely on guard.
