The Last Pecan

Do you know that the pecan tree is the official state tree of Texas? You probably do if you live here in the Lone Star State. Do you know that the city of Seguin says it is the pecan capital of the world? Well, if you live in Seguin, you probably know that, and if you have visited Seguin and driven past the courthouse, you have probably noticed the huge pecan that sits in front of the building.

There is a reason why our city makes it's boast about pecans. All you have to do is drive by any neighborhood and you will see pecan trees in folk's yards. There are hundreds, maybe even thousands of pecan trees in this small city.

My yard also has its share of pecan trees. There are two on the north side of the house, two on the west side, and two on the east side. We have picked up baskets of pecans and made several pies. I thought the pecans had all fallen, but here is one that is still on the tree.  So, for folks who are not blessed with pecan trees and fresh pecans, here is what they look like before they fall.
